“The film answers this unified question with a sequence that transitions through a distorted lens centered on Toni’s head into a dark room observed through a circular enclosure of further hair-related demeaning that looks as if we were seeing the contents of a glass bottle from its bottom. These contents echo staples of self-denigration, and emphasize the lack of desirability falsely attributed to the status of her hair, the failure of the people around her to remain dedicated to their hair, and even her employability, or lack of; through this, it becomes clear that these spirits are Toni’s insecurities personified on screen, introducing a mimesis that squiggles its lines into the film’s diegesis. This mimesis becomes a guide that firmly holds the viewer’s hands as they venture deeper into discovering the film”

I use film to capture elements of a story that clothing alone cannot convey, carrying the inspiration forward through a different creative outlet.
